Intending to encourage and motivate Army personnel, engaged in the speedily-established ‘walk-in’ Community Vaccination Centres of the Armed Forces for vaccination of Western Province residents above 30 years of age, General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army this morning (5) took time off his hectic schedule and visited Battaramulla Diyatha Uyana Vaccination Centre, the programme, jointly manned by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU).

A large consignment of vital life-supporting medical devices, equipment and accessories, gifted to Sri Lanka for COVID-19 control work by the laity at US-based Dharma Vijaya Foundation and Buddhist Viharaya was symbolically vested in the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) this morning (1) during a meeting with General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

"The Army and service personnel for COVID-19 control work have been deployed as frontliners exclusively to assist health professionals on the directives of HE the President since he is well aware of the capacity, full potential and professional capabilities of the military and this all-time prepared assistance should not be misunderstood or misinterpreted as 'interference' in professional health work. General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army was one of the distinguished guest speakers to the ongoing 2nd day (7-9 June) virtual online sessions at the Sri Lanka Investment Forum (SLIF) on Tuesday (8). He was invited as one of Expert Resource Personnel to speak on the topic 'Managing the COVID 19 Pandemic, Protecting Life, Livelihood, and Economic Progress' as the Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) in Sri Lanka. Over 65 countries joined the seminar, themed "Sri Lanka-Asia's Next Growth Heaven".

Extending an impressive gesture of goodwill, appreciation and concern towards the role of Sri Lankan armed forces in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, High Commissioner of Australia for Sri Lanka, His Excellency, David Holly on Thursday (3) called on General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at the Army Headquarters, Sri Jayawardenapura and gifted a large quantity of personal protection equipment (PPE) to the Army.

As Army troops across the island at the request of the government moved to Galle, Matara, Matale, Kurunegala and Anuradhapura areas in the South, North-East, North Central Province and the Central Province to conduct/ assist regional COVID-19 Vaccination Centres after HE the President prioritized those areas for vaccination, General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army this morning (27) made unannounced visits to Sri Sudarmaramaya in Batuwanhena, Elpitiya and Katukurunda Dharmika Vidyalaya in Habaraduwa Vaccination Centres and saw for himself how those Centres were functional with active support of Army troops.
