Troops of the 6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment serving under the 58 Infantry Division of the 1 Corps conducted a rescue operation to evacuate an elderly woman who had been trapped by floods in Makulwewa, Kurunegala on 25 December 2022.

Due to prevailing bad weather conditions, the traffic of a section of Gampola- Hemmathagama road had been disrupted by a landslide on 25 December 2022. As per the guidance of the GOC 58 Infantry Division Maj Gen Vipula Ihalage RWP RSP psc, troops from 5 VIR Infantry Regiment were cleared the road under the supervision of CO 5 VIR.

Major General Crishantha Gnanaratne ndc psc, the 2nd Commander of 1 Corps relinquished his duties on 15 December 2022 during a formal military ceremony, held at the Headquarters 1 Corps, Kilinochchi.

Major General Crishantha Gnanaratne ndc psc made his final visit in the capacity of Commander 1 Corps to 58 Infantry Division on 12 December 2022 which had been adorned by ceremonial garbs to welcome him.

The Commander of 1 Corps, Major General Crishantha Gnanaratne ndc psc visited the 53 Infantry Division (RSF) on 11 December 2022 prior to his retirement. During the visit a formal military ceremony held at the 53 Infantry Division Headquarters at Habarana.

A valuable lecture on “Mature Leadership”, was conducted by Lt Col WPK Senerath RWP RSP USP IG, SO I (A) of 1 Corps for Regimental Sergeant Majors, Drill Instructors and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers of 1 Corps and its affiliated Logistics Units, at the headquarters 1 Corps on 25 November 2022.

The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Major General (Retd) Umar Farooq Burki, Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) paid a courtesy visit to the Headquarters 1 Corps, Kilinochchi on 24 November 2022 and he was warmly welcomed by Commander of 1 Corps, Major General Crishantha Gnanaratne.
