UNIQUE VEHICLE FOR PRESIDENT'S STANDARDS PROVIDED TO 1ST RECONNAISSANCE REGIMENT

Recognizing the regiment's loyalty towards the nation and the dedicated service rendered to preserve territorial integrity and the sovereignty of the motherland since its inception, the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps was bestowed with the President’s Standards on 14 December 1998.

Since then, the President’s Standard has been paraded in various national as well as Army ceremonial events and the absence of a dedicated vehicle to transport the standard was a considerable shortfall in the regiment in paying due respect and showcasing the prestige of the regiment.

Accordingly, consequent to the request made by the Commanding Officer of 1st Reconnaissance Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel W D S D Wickramaarachchi RWP RSP USP psc and with the directions and supervision of the Military Secretary and the Colonel Commandant SLAC, Major General D B S N Bothota RWP RSP USP psc, the Centre Commandant SLAC, Brigadier W P Kariyawasam and Commander Armoured Brigade, Brigadier M W A R C Wijesuriya RSP USP along with the assistance of the MGO, QMG, DS&T and DEME at the AHQ, the Commandant of SLEME Base workshop Katubedda, Colonel R T Lokuthotahewa USP psc and his team have refurbished a special vehicle for President’s Standard in perfection and officially handed over to the Centre Commandant SLAC on 09th October 2022.
