Major General Y Balarathnarajah VSV USP ndc Combat Endurance Training Competition – 2024, organized by the Armoured Corps Training Centre (ACTC), was successfully held from 29 September to 01 October 2024 at ACTC, Kalattewa. This annual event, held for the second time, is designed to test the endurance, fitness, and team spirit of participant teams. Six teams representing the six units of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps participated in the rigorous challenge, which included a 5 km run and 20 battle obstacles in full battle order, all to be completed within 64 minutes.
The event honours the late Major General Y Balarathnarajah VSV USP ndc, a respected cavalryman who served the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps from 1959 to 1992 and was its first Armoured Brigade Commander. His family, including his son Mr. Arjun Balarathnarajah, generously sponsored the competition.
The 3rd Armoured Regiment team emerged victorious, receiving the Major General Y Balarathnarajah Challenge Trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 100,000. The 4th Armoured Regiment and the 6th (Rft) Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps were awarded second and third places, receiving trophies and Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 40,000, respectively. L/Cpl Dhananjaya V P T R of the 6th (Rft) Regiment was named the best combat endurance soldier.
Major General M S Devapriya USP ndc, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, attended as the Chief Guest, with Brigadier C S N B Mudannayake (Rtd) as the Guest of Honour at the awards ceremony which was held on 01st Oct 2024.
