Under the esteemed patronage of Major General GLSW Liyanage USP nps psc Chief Signal Officer of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps, the Officers’ Training Day for the first quarter of 2025 was successfully conducted on 26 March at the Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Panagoda. 126 officers participated in the event.
The day commenced with a special Arabic Physical Training Program, conducted at the playground by instructors from the Army Physical Training School. Following this, a sword drill parade was conducted to refresh the officers' sword drill skills within the Corps of Signals.
Subsequently, a guest lecture on “Geopolitical Trends and its Impact to Sri Lanka” was then conducted by Assistant Superintendent of Police Sarojini Withanage from the State Intelligence Service, broadening the officers understanding of international affairs. This was followed by a fruitful lecture on the “Clean Sri Lanka Project” presented by the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps. The session emphasized the importance of officers' roles within the Army and their contribution to the nation's development, with a focus on the future role of the military in national interest.
In the evening, a cricket tournament was organized to foster camaraderie, team spirit, and unity among the officers. The day concluded with the Diners’ Club at the Regimental Officers’ Mess, Panagoda starting at 1900 hrs. At the invitation of the Colonel Commandant, Prof. Thushara Weerawardena, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Kotelawala Defence University, graced the event as the guest speaker. Prof. Weerawardena delivered an engaging and insightful lecture on the "Impact of Digital Technology on Future Industries in the Sri Lankan Context." The session was a resounding success, featuring an interactive Q&A segment and enthusiastic participation from 126 Signal Officers, including senior officers and those on extra-regimental employment.
At the conclusion of the session, the Chief Signal Officer and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps expressed his appreciation for Prof. Weerawardena and presented him with a token of appreciation for his valuable contribution.
