In a ceremony steeped in military tradition, the Sri Lanka Signal Corps bid farewell to Major General Priyantha Ratnayake on 23 October, marking the end of his distinguished 34-year career in the Sri Lanka Army. The event, held at the SLSC Regimental Headquarters premises in Panagoda, was a poignant occasion filled with reverence and respect for the retiring officer's service and dedication.
The ceremony was formally held in keeping with military traditions at the SLSC Regimental Headquarters premises in Panagoda. The programme of events commenced with the ceremonial Guard Turnout, followed by paying homage to the fallen war heroes of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps at the Regimental War Heroes’ Monument, underscoring the sacrifices made in service to the nation.
A poignant moment ensued with the Guard of Honour, where SLSC troops demonstrated their respect and admiration for Major General Ratnayake. This symbolic gesture highlighted the unity and camaraderie within the corps, acknowledging the leadership and guidance provided by the retiring officer. Addressing Signal troops at the Auditorium, Major General Ratnayake shared his insights and reflections, imparting wisdom garnered from his extensive military experience. The subsequent All Ranks Tea at the Corporals' Club provided an opportunity for camaraderie and fellowship, reinforcing the bonds forged through shared service and sacrifice. Finally, in a moving gesture, all Officers and Other Ranks honoured him in a street line farewell as he moved out of the Regimental Centre premises, presenting his final salute.
The day culminated in a traditional ‘Formal Dinner Night’ hosted by all Officers at the Regimental Officers’ Mess. Amidst camaraderie and reminiscences, this farewell dinner served as a fitting tribute to Major General Ratnayake, celebrating his legacy and contributions to the Sri Lanka Signal Corps.
