The Sri Lanka Signal Corps created history by winning the first-ever Sri Lanka Army Canoeing and Kayaking Championship 2025, held from 24 to 26 August at the Waters’ Edge Diyawannawa Rowing Academy.
The three-day event featured 10 regiments battling across multiple categories, showcasing endurance, teamwork, and determination on the water. At the end, it was the Sri Lanka Signal Corps who rose above the rest with a remarkable medal tally by obtaining 14 Gold, 6 Silver, 3 Bronze medals in Men’s Category and 5 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals in Women’s Category.
The fight for the overall title went down to the wire as the Signal Corps and Sri Lanka Light Infantry were tied before the final race. With both regiments securing two gold medals each, the championship was decided in the 500m Dragon Boat event. In a thrilling finish, the Signal Corps powered ahead to victory, sealing their place as the first-ever champions of the tournament.
Adding further glory to the regiment, S/288869 Sgm Dilshan L.R. was named the Best Player of the Championship, recognizing his outstanding performance and leadership throughout the competition. The historic triumph of the Signal Corps not only highlights the sporting excellence but also sets a benchmark for future championships.
