The inaugural technological discussion of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps was held on 16 August 2025 marking a historic step in fostering dialogue and collaboration in the field of communication technology. As the first event of its kind, it created a platform where officers of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps came together to explore emerging trends, exchange ideas, and chart the way forward.
The event was spearheaded by the School of Signals, the premier training establishment of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps under the supervision of its Commandant, Colonel MR Hameem USP as per a concept by the Chief Signal Officer of the Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Major General Sajith Liyanage USP nps psc. The symposium revolved around three core themes of technological advancement namely;
Radio Communication Systems – Exploring innovations that continue to shape reliable field communication.
Terrestrial Communication Systems – Addressing the backbone technologies that ensure connectivity across regions.
Modernization of the Army Telecommunication Network – examining how defense communications can be upgraded to meet the challenges of modern operations.
Comprehensive researches were done by a team of 6 Officers, 2 for each subject area, who were experts in the above fields. The team consisted of Major DS Panagoda SLSC and Captain RDK Sikurajapathy SLSC for Radio Communication Systems, Major MADN Kumara psc SLSC and Captain KMRD Konara SLSC for Terrestrial Communication Systems and Major RMCP Ranasinghe SLSC and Major GBHP Gamlath SLSC for Modernization of the Army Telecommunication Network. The presenters emphasized that technology is not only a tool for efficiency but also a catalyst for security, resilience, and long-term progress.
This maiden discussion paved the way for a new tradition creating a platform for experienced officers to share their knowledge with young officers who are the future of the Corps. For younger participants, it was a transformative experience. Exposure to novel ideas and direct engagement with senior officers inspired them to think boldly about their role in shaping the technological future.
