THE INAUGURAL OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE COLONEL COMMANDANT TO THE SCHOOL OF SIGNALS AND THE PASSING OUT PARADE OF THE BASIC CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY COURSE 131

Major General IHMRK Herath USP ndc psc, the Chief Signal Officer of the Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC), made his inaugural official visit to the School of Signals on 22 March 2024 in par with passing out ceremony of the Basic Certificate in Information and Communication Technology Course No 131 where Thirty-four recruits received their Signal insignia.

The Colonel Commandant graced the passing out ceremony as the Chief Guest accompanied by Signal Brigade Commanders, Deputy Centre Commandant and Commanding Officers of Signal Regiments by accepting the invitation by the Commandant of the School of Signals, Colonel MAK Jayawardena psc.

The days proceedings commenced by according a guard turnout to the Chief Guest followed by the passing out parade. S/ 288760 Signalman Jayarathna APST was awarded as the best all round student of the course. The Chief Guest congratulated the new signallers whilst adding his invaluable advice for the betterment of their future professional endeavors.

Following the parade, the Chief Signal Officer posed for group photographs with the passing out students as well as the permenant staff of the school. Thereafter, a mango sapling was planted by the Chief Guest to mark the occasion.

Subsequently, the students presented practical briefings on Computer Networks, CCTV Systems, Telephone Network and Radio Communications to the Chief guest and senior officers which was highly commended.

After hosting the Colonel Commandant and all guests for refreshments, the Commandant of the School of Signals did a comprehensive situational briefing to the Colonel Commandant covering Training, Administrative, Logistical matters and future infrastructure development plan of the School of Signals.

Finally, the Colonel Commandant addressed the troops who were gathered at the Mercury Hall during which he stressed upon the discipline of the soldiers and its impact on their military and personal life. Further, he elaborated on present financial crisis, situational awareness and remedial actions to manage the situation.

To mark the culmination of the official visit, the Commandant of the School of Signals presented a memento to the Colonel Commandant in order to mark the occasion.
