Under the direction of the Commander Security Forces (West), Major General U K D D P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc and the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division, Major General KJNMPK Nawarathna RWP RSP ndu, a Disaster Response and Rescue Training Programme was successfully conducted from 27 to 29 March 2025 at 2nd Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry camp premises in Kelanimulla.
The 14 Infantry Division is responsible for Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha districts, which are major flood-prone areas. This training workshop aimed to equip officers and soldiers with essential skills to conduct swift and efficient rescue operations during a flood situation in the area.
More than two hundred troops of under-command battalions took part in the training. This training mainly focused on improving knowledge on disaster management awareness, basic first aid, CPR, artificial respiration, water rescue techniques, boat handling, and the use of rescue knots.
