In an effort to nurture the morale and intellectual growth of military personnel, a lecture on “Motivating Soldiers Through Military Literature” was held under the direction of Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Commander Security Forces (West). This thought-provoking session took place on 18th December 2024, at the 4th Sri Lanka Artillery Lecture Hall, and was aimed at strengthening the knowledge, mindset, and professional outlook of Officers and Other Ranks within the Security Forces (West).
The lecture was delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Sujith Chaminda Edirisinghe, from Directorate of Media and Psychological Operations. As a distinguished speaker with expertise in psychological motivation, Lieutenant Colonel Sujith Chaminda Edirisinghe highlighted the unique role of military literature in cultivating resilience, morale, and a sense of purpose among soldiers.
The speaker emphasized that history of military literature serves as a powerful tool for fostering discipline, courage, and a strong mental framework in the war heroes. By drawing on stories of valor, sacrifice, and strategic brilliance, soldiers gain a deeper appreciation of their roles and responsibilities, motivating them to excel in service. Furthermore, military literature strengthens the ethical and cultural foundations of soldiers, enabling them to face adversities with unwavering determination.
Lieutenant Colonel Sujith Chaminda Edirisinghe also delved into how motivational concepts derived from military literature are intertwined with the principles of psychological well-being. By engaging with such literature, soldiers can better cope with the emotional and mental challenges associated with military life.
The lecture created a platform for open dialogue, with participants engaging actively in discussions about the role of literature in shaping military ethos and fostering camaraderie. Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks expressed their appreciation for the insights shared during the session, which not only inspired them but also offered practical approaches to strengthening their mental resilience.
The session witnessed the participation of 09 Officers and 151 Other Ranks representing various branches, regiments, and units under the Security Forces (West). Brigadier G S K Perera RSP ndc, the Brigadier General Staff SFHQ (West) appreciated the dedication of the Guest Lecturer, Lieutenant Colonel Sujith Chaminda Edirisinghe. The event underscored the commitment of the Security Forces Headquarters (West) to developing a well-rounded military workforce by addressing both the intellectual and emotional dimensions of service life.
