GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING 57 INFANTRY DIVISION OBSERVES LANDSLIDE AFFECTED AREA IN KALUGAHATHENNA

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 57 Infantry Division, Major General W M P M Wijesooriya RWP RSP ndu, accompanied by Staff Officers of 57 Infantry Division, visited the landslide-affected area in Kalugahathenna, Rideegama, within the Kurunegala District on 29th November 2024. The visit aimed to assess ongoing disaster developments, evaluate the status of emergency relief efforts, review preparedness for future emergencies, and inspect the condition of any Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) centers in the area.

During the visit, Major General W M P M Wijesooriya met with various government officials, including the Grama Niladhari of Kalugahathenna, the Executive Engineer of Provincial Road Development, Police Officers from the Delvita Police Station, representatives from World Vision, and volunteer organizations still actively engaged in disaster relief efforts near the landslide site. GOC also exchanged views with them regarding the ongoing relief work and the challenges faced in addressing the needs of the affected community.
