Commencement of the first working day official ceremony of the year 2026 was held with the presence of the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General U K D D P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of SFHQ (West), at the Security Forces Headquarters (West) on 1 January 2026.
The day's proceedings began with Kiri Ithirima in the SFHQ building, flag-hoisting ceremony was taken place with start of office hours during which Commander Security Forces (West) raised the National Flag while Brigadier (GS) raised the Security Forces Headquarters (West) flag. This was followed by the playing of the National Anthem and the Army Song in a solemn gesture of respect, a two-minute silence was observed in honour of fallen war heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland.
Following the formalities, all personnel took the oath associated with the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative. The New Year message for 2026 issued by the Commander of the Army, was then announced to all ranks. The message conveyed best wishes for the New Year and underscored the admired role played during recent adverse weather condition, importance of achieving a victorious Army through professionalism, trustworthiness and honour as well as the responsible role of the "Clean Sri Lanka" project.
The event proceeded with a traditional All Ranks Tea, providing an opportunity for camaraderie to engage in discussions with all ranks. During this session, SF Commander addressed the troops, extending his New Year wishes and expressing gratitude for their dedication and service to the nation. He also remarked great role played by SFHQ (West) during recent adverse weather situation emphasizing the responsibility and the cooperation of Army personnel in ensuring achieving success.
