Under the direction of Major General W M P M Wijesooriya RWP RSP ndu, the General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division, the Officiating Commander of the 571 Infantry Brigade, Colonel H H S P S De Silva RSP USP, and the Commanding Officer 9th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (9 SLNG), Major T S P Kumara RSP SLNG, visited the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) center established at Kalugahathenna Vidyalaya and the landslide-affected area in the Rideegama Divisional Secretariat Division, Kalugahathenna Grama Niladhari Division, at approximately 0930 hours on 30 November 2024.
The Divisional Secretary of Rideegama, Mr. Kushan Wickramasooriya, the Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Center, Kurunegala, Mr. Viraj Dissanayake, Officer-in-Charge of the Delvita Police Station, the Grama Niladhari of the area, and representatives from the NGO World Vision also participated in the visit. During the visit, a community meeting was held at the IDP center to discuss issues faced by the affected individuals, along with the measures required to address their needs.
Additionally, the Divisional Secretary, Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Center, the Officiating Commander 571 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officer 9th SLNG, and other relevant officials visited the IDP center and the landslide site. It was observed that the landslide area remains slightly active, with cloudy weather and intermittent light rain in the vicinity at the time of the visit.
Future actions and measures to mitigate the impact of the disaster were also deliberated upon during the visit.
