To commemorate the 76th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, the 61 Infantry Division proudly organized an Inter-Brigade Cricket Tournament, fostering unity, sportsmanship, and camaraderie among its troops, under the guidance of General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division, Major General W S V Fernando USP ndc IG.
A total of 10 teams, representing the Division Headquarters, Brigades, and Battalions under command, enthusiastically participated in the tournament. The event provided a spirited platform for soldiers to showcase their athletic talents and strengthen bonds beyond the battlefield.
After a series of competitive and well-fought matches, 20 SLLI and 9 SLSR emerged as the top two teams, securing their places in the final encounter. The final match, played in a true display of discipline, teamwork, and determination, captivated all spectators with its intensity and sportsmanship.
In the end, 9 SLSR triumphed as Champions of the Inter-Brigade Cricket Tournament, demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork. The 20 SLLI team was commended for their commendable performance and fighting spirit throughout the competition.
The tournament concluded successfully under the guidance and supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Major General W S V Fernando USP ndc IG, whose leadership and encouragement continue to inspire both professional excellence and the holistic development of soldiers.
