61 INFANTRY DIVISION CONDUCTED A THREE-DAY PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Under the visionary leadership of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Major General K T P De Silva RSP ndu psc, a three-day workshop on photography using mobile phones was successfully conducted from 21 to 23 January 2025 at the 61 Infantry Division Headquarters. The workshop aimed to promote photography as a medium to highlight the unparalleled activities of Army personnel, while also fostering creativity, self-expression, and skill development among participants.

The event, attended by 70 Other Ranks from under command Battalions and Brigade Headquarters, was guided by renowned photographers Mr. Priyantha Abeysundara B.Fa NPAS, Hon FNPAS, and Mr. Suresh S. Weerasinghe ANPAS of the “Roopa Chiraka” Forum, who are widely recognized for their expertise and contributions to the art of photography.

During the workshop, participants were introduced to the basics of photography, advanced techniques, practical applications, and methods for adjusting lighting and color. Practical sessions enabled participants to implement these concepts in real time under the expert guidance of the trainers.

The workshop not only honed the participants’ photography skills but also inspired them to adopt a new way of perceiving their surroundings. It encouraged creative thinking, which indirectly promoted discipline and helped divert participants from negative influences such as drug addiction and online gambling, issues often encountered in modern society.

The event concluded with a recognition ceremony to appreciate individual talent and team creativity. The five best photographs captured during the workshop were awarded special certificates, while all other participants received certificates of participation.

The program culminated with a group photograph of the participants, trainers, and officers, marking the successful conclusion of this timely and impactful initiative. Senior officers, including the General Officer Commanding, the Deputy General Officer Commanding, the Colonel General Staff Officer, Senior Officers and Officers participated in this meaningful event.
