16TH SRI LANKAN CONTINGENT DEPARTS FOR UN PEACEKEEPING MISSION IN LEBANON

The 16th contingent of the Sri Lanka Forces Protection Company, assigned to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), departed for Lebanon on Wednesday, 2 July 2025. The team, comprising 121 Army personnel including 07 officers and 114 other ranks left amidst warm farewells and best wishes. Commander Security Force (WEST) Major General U K D D P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc was presented at the airport to convey greetings and extend the best wishes of the Commander of the Army.

This deployment marks another significant contribution by Sri Lanka to global peacekeeping efforts under the UN. The troops will carry out protection duties in line with UN mandates, continuing the proud tradition of professionalism and dedication demonstrated by previous Sri Lankan contingents. The departure reflects the nation’s ongoing commitment to supporting international peace and security through the United Nations peacekeeping framework, upholding its reputation on the global stage.
