Under a concept initiated by the General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division and with the generous support of the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Association, a special spectacle distribution programme was successfully conducted under the guidance of the Commanders of the 551 and 553 Infantry Brigades.
The programme was organized by the 7th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 11 (Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment, 6th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, and 14th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard on 02 and 04 June 2026 from 0800 hrs to 1400 hrs at the CIMIC Park, Kilinochchi, and the Paranthan Community Hall.
The primary objective of the programme was to further strengthen harmony and goodwill between the civilian community and the Sri Lanka Army through the conduct of eye examination clinics and the distribution of free spectacles. Following eye examinations, 375 civilians were provided with free spectacles. The programme was successfully implemented with the valuable contribution and support of the members of the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Association, including its Chairman.The General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, Civil Affairs Officers of the 551 and 553 Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officers of the respective battalions, officers, and other ranks were present at the occasion.
