On April 14, 2026, the 521 Infantry Brigade, led by Brigade Commander Brigadier Dammika Jayarathne, shared the warmth of Avurudu with the children and elders of Paramamanda Orphanage at Nelliadi -VADAMARCHCHI Division, in keeping with the spirit of compassion and unity of the Sinhala and Tamil New Years.
The programme was made possible by the family of Maj Gen Ravi Ratnasingham (Rtd), whose generous donation allowed the Brigade to organise the occasion. Troops from the 521 Infantry Brigade prepared and served a traditional Avurudu Kama Mesaya to 70 youngsters and elders at the orphanage, including auspicious milk rice and other festive delights that were shared in a spirit of respect and camaraderie. The programme demonstrated the Army's ongoing dedication to community outreach and civil-military cooperation, offering residents comfort and joy during this auspicious season.
