In conjunction with the 78th National Independence Day the 1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment conducted a community service programe to clean the Iyyakachchi Maha Vidyalaya located in the KN/79 Iyyakachchi Grama Niladhari Division of the unit area and plant trees on the school ground on 03 February 2026 in which the teachers, children and parents of the school also participated. The Commanding Officer of the 1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel HGE Hapukotuwa USP, participated the troops to clean the school grounds and carry out a tree planting program.
The program was conducted under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding 52 Infantry Division Major General MN Fernando RSP and under the supervision of the Commander 522 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier JAC Karunathilaka RSP USP.
