Major General HMGE Herath RSP USP ndu psc ceremonially assumed office as the 30th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 55 Infantry Division at its headquarters in Kilinochchi on 02 January 2026.
The formal ceremony commenced with the newly appointed General Officer Commanding being warmly welcomed by Brigade Commanders and Staff Officers. Troops of the 6 Battalion, Sinha Regiment presented a Guard Turnout and Guard of Honour in keeping with military traditions.
Following the parade to mark the occasion and promote environmental awareness, Major General HMGE Herath RSP USP ndu psc planted a mango sapling at the Headquarters premises.
Following the honours, Major General Enoj Herath participated in a multi-religious observance to invoke blessings for his new appointment. As a symbolic gesture, General Officer Commanding was accompanied to his office, where he officially assumed duties by signing a taking over document marking the commencement of his tenure.
In his first address to the formation, he expressed his expectations and vision, addressing all Officers and Other Ranks of the Division. The event concluded with an All-Ranks tea, fostering camaraderie and unity among all personnel.
Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers, and Other Ranks of the 55 Infantry Division were present to witness and extend their best wishes to the new General Officer Commanding as he took over the reins of the formation.
