Following landslides caused by the Dithva cyclone, several houses in the Fairlawn Estate area of Maskeliya were damaged, forcing residents to evacuate their homes. As a result, 43 families were relocated to a safe location and are currently taking temporary shelter at the Fairlawn Estate School.
In response to this situation, essential kitchen items were distributed to the affected families on 15 December 2025 to support their immediate daily needs. This humanitarian assistance was coordinated under the guidance of the Commander, 521 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Dammika Jayarathne, with the generous sponsorship of Mr. Ravi Rathnasingham, a Sri Lankan residing in the United States.
The donated kitchen equipment was delivered directly to the temporary shelter where the displaced families are accommodated, ensuring timely and effective support. This initiative reflects the continued commitment of the Sri Lanka Army to humanitarian assistance and community welfare, especially during times of natural disasters, while strengthening cooperation between local authorities and overseas Sri Lankans well-wishers.
