55 Infantry Division Support Communities Affected by Severe Weather

In response to the difficulties faced by communities affected by recent adverse weather conditions, troops under the 55 Division have launched several community-oriented relief initiatives. These efforts aim to provide essential drinking water, support public welfare activities, and restore damaged infrastructure.

A team of 01 officer with 15 soldiers from the 11 (Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment, in the Venneri Kulam Grama Niladhari Division, successfully carried out the cleaning of a contaminated well to ensure safe drinking water for local residents.

Similarly, a team of 01 officer with 04 soldiers from the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry cleaned another drinking-water well in the Ananda Puram (East) area of Kilinochchi, which had been polluted due to recent flooding.

In addition, restoration work on the damaged bridge along the A-35 road in Kandaweli, which suffered severe impact from the adverse weather conditions, was supported by multiple Sri Lanka Army units. The troops from 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment (10 soldiers), 11 (Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment (10 soldiers), 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (01 officer with 10 soldiers) and 9 Field Sri Lanka Engineers Regiment (01 officer with 20 soldiers) were deployed to assist engineers and representatives of the Indian Army (04 officers with 42 soldiers) involved in reconstructing the new bridge:
