Support from the 55 Infantry Division for Post-Weather-Disaster Restoration Work in Kilinochchi

A series of programs aimed at restoring wells used for drinking water an urgent need of the people affected by the recent adverse weather conditions was carried out on 08 December 2025 under the guidance of the 551 Infantry Brigade of the 55 Infantry Division. The work was completed with the contribution of 01x07 troops from the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry.

In addition, restoration work on the bridge located in the Kandaweli area along the A-35 road, which was damaged due to the recent severe weather, has already commenced under the supervision of the 55 Infantry Division. A team of 01x10 personnel from the 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, under the 553 Infantry Brigade, provided support to a group of 04 officer with 41 soldiers from Indian Army representatives and engineers who are currently engaged in constructing the new bridge.

As community assistance operations extended into their sixth consecutive day, troops of the 55 Infantry Division continued to demonstrate resolute commitment to supporting the civilian population across the Jaffna Peninsula. Through sustained efforts in well restoration, cleaning operations and essential service support, the Division remained dedicated to strengthening community resilience and restoring normalcy across all affected areas.
