52 Infantry Division troops under the supervision of Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) conducted multiple disaster-response and public-health operations across the area of responsibility on 08 December 2025.
Due to continuous heavy rainfall, a considerable number of wells and low-lying areas in the region became contaminated and waterlogged with wastewater. Recognizing the immediate public health threat posed by stagnant and polluted water, troops of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Regiment swiftly engaged in clearance operations.
The troops undertook a comprehensive effort to remove accumulated wastewater from affected wells and surrounding areas. Their timely intervention not only prevented the spread of waterborne diseases but also helped restore safe access to vital domestic water sources for the local population. The operation was carried out under challenging conditions, demonstrating the regiment’s commitment to safeguarding community welfare during emergencies.
Following the adverse weather conditions, many families in the Polikkandi GN Division faced severe shortages of clean drinking water. With public water sources either contaminated or inaccessible due to flooding, the 11 Vijayaba Infantry Regiment launched an essential water- distribution operation. Troops distributed safe drinking water to residents across the affected areas, ensuring that vulnerable families-particularly children, elderly individuals, and those with limited mobility- received uninterrupted access to potable water. Their service played a crucial role in maintaining community health during a period of disrupted utilities.
10 (V) Vijayaba Infantry Regiment Restores Nagathambiran Kovil Premises located in Nagarkovil suffered extensive flooding as a result of the persistent heavy rains. Floodwaters caused significant damage to the kovil premises, impacting both the structure and its surrounding environment.
In response, troops of the 10 (Volunteer) Vijayaba Infantry Regiment promptly conducted a large-scale clean-up operation to restore the sacred site. The troops drained accumulated water, removed debris, cleaned damaged interior and exterior areas, and assisted local devotees in returning the premises to a usable state. Their contribution was highly appreciated by the community, as the kovil holds deep cultural and religious significance.
As community assistance operations extended into their sixth consecutive day, troops of the 52 Infantry Division continued to demonstrate resolute commitment to supporting the civilian population across the Jaffna Peninsula. Through sustained efforts in well restoration, cleaning operations and essential service support, the Division remained dedicated to strengthening community resilience and restoring normalcy across all affected areas.
