Clean Sri Lanka Beach Cleaning Campaign Begins in Jaffna District

As a part of “Clean Sri lanka” programme under the visionary leadership of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and under the supervision of Major General KAN Rasika Kumara ndc psc Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), under command infantry divisions have organized a large scale beach cleanup initiative covering the costal stretch of Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts under the theme of “A Clean Environment, A Clean Coastline for the Nation”.

The main programme officially started at 0700 hrs, Pannai junction in Jaffna on 29 July 2025. Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Mr. M Pradeepan Government Agent Jaffna, Mr S.Sathiyaseelan Sectary to the Governor Northern Province, Dr. Saman Pathirana Sectary of Health Department Northern Province, Major General Nishantha Muthumala USP psc, Commander 51 Infantry Division, Major Genaral Nilanga Fernando RSP,Commander 52 Infantry Division, Major Genaral Aruna Wijekoon USP ndc, Commander 55 Infantry Division and Major Ganaral Indika Perera RWP RSP, Commander Logistic Command Security Force Headquarters Jaffna, Divisional Secretaries of Jaffna and Nallur , Municipal Commissioner and Deputy Mayor of Municipal Council Jaffna, also participated as guest of honors of this event. District coordinators of Marine Environment Protection Authority, Divisional Sectary Telippalai and Assistant Divisional Sectary Chankani were also participated concurrent events at Kilinochchi district, Mathagal and Kankasanturai.

Troops from the 51,52 and 55 Infantry divisions, affiliated and logistic battalions of Security Force Headquarters Jaffna, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Police, Special Task Force Jaffna , and Official Staff of District Secretariats of Jaffna and Kilinochchi district, Divisional Secretariats of Jaffna, Telippalai,Chankani ,Sandilippai and Nallur, Office of Medical Officer of Health Jaffna, Municipal Council Jaffna, Archeological department Jaffna - Fort, teachers and students of GTM school Palali were actively engage in cleaning various coastal areas including Tondamanaru to Kanksanturai, Kiramale, Madagal, Ponnali beach the Navanthurai area, the Jaffna–Mandativu road, the Pannai lagoon front, and the Gurunagar coastal area. In the coastal belt of the Kilinochchi District, the beach cleaning programme was conducted at K Point, Arukuweli South, Kowutharimunai, Vettakadu, Pallikuda, Valaippadu, and Kiranchi

The cleanup campaign commences at 0700 hr and concluded at 1200 hr leaving the significant positive impact on the coastal areas. This initiative reinforced the collective commitment to create a clean and greener Sri Lanka.
