The Pongal celebration in Jaffna for 2025 was graced by Major General Manada Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of the Security Forces (Jaffna), who attended as the Chief Guest on January 14, 2025, at CIMIC Park, 51 Infantry Division. The event, organized under the leadership of Major General MPNA Muthumala USP psc, brought together military personnel and local communities to celebrate this important cultural festival in a spirit of unity and harmony.
Pongal, a festival that expresses gratitude to the Sun, Mother Nature, and farm animals for a bountiful harvest was celebrated with traditional activities such as the preparation of Pongal rice, the construction of a beautifully decorated pandal, and a variety of cultural games for both children and adults. Thoughtful gifts were also distributed to all participants, adding an extra layer of joy and inclusivity to the occasion.
The celebration was attended by several distinguished guests, including Mr. Kalinga Jayasinghe, Deputy Inspector General of Jaffna; Brigadier MPKL Amarasinghe WWV RWP RSP; Mr. Sivasiri, Divisional Secretary of Kopay; Brigadier Sujith Kulasekara; senior officers; soldiers; schoolchildren; and villagers. The event successfully fostered unity, cultural appreciation, and strengthened civil- military relations in the Jaffna peninsula.
