Sri Lanka Army Supports Disaster Management Centre Operations in Jaffna

Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna and the 51 Infantry Division extended timely inter agency support to the Disaster Management Centre Jaffna on 13 December 2025 by facilitating the transportation of essential disaster relief items for communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah in the Northern Province. This coordinated effort reflected the Army’s continued commitment to supporting national disaster response mechanisms through close civil military cooperation.

In response to a formal request made by the Disaster Management Centre Jaffna, troops of the 512 Infantry Brigade were deployed to provide transport assistance for a consignment of critical relief equipment received at the Sri Lanka Air Force Station Palaly. A dedicated Army team ensured the safe and timely movement of these essential items to the District Secretariat Jaffna for onward distribution to affected areas, thereby strengthening the operational capacity of civil authorities engaged in relief and recovery operations.

The transported consignment included a wide range of disaster response and recovery equipment comprising power generators, chainsaws, water pumps, tents, rescue tools, communication accessories, and related logistical stores required for field level emergency operations. Upon arrival at the District Secretariat Jaffna, the relief items were formally handed over to the Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre ensuring accountability and effective coordination between military and civilian agencies.

This operation once again reflected the proactive role played by Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna and the 51 Infantry Division in supporting civil administration during times of national need. Through the dedicated efforts of the 512 Infantry Brigade and its troops, the Sri Lanka Army continues to demonstrate professionalism, responsiveness and a strong commitment to safeguarding public wellbeing while reinforcing public confidence through effective inter agency collaboration.
