Colonel M P J Muthunayaka officially assumed duties as the 23rd Commander of the 553 Infantry Brigade in a formal ceremony held at the Brigade Headquarters in Vishvamadhu on 20th February 2025.
Upon his arrival, Colonel Muthunayaka was warmly welcomed by the Civil Affairs Officer, along with the Commanding Officers of the 6th Battalion, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, and the 14th Battalion, Sri Lanka National Guard. As part of military traditions, he was accorded a ceremonial Guard Turnout at the entrance of the Brigade.
Following the welcoming formalities, Colonel Muthunayaka placed his signature on official documents, symbolizing his formal assumption of duties. The day's program also included the planting of a sapling to mark the occasion, an all-ranks tea gathering, an address to the troops, and a comprehensive staff briefing.
The event was conducted with due military decorum, reflecting the significance of the leadership transition within the 553 Infantry Brigade.
