Io Weve 2025 Tsunami Disaster Prevention Exercise In Point Pedro

Troops of the 521 Infantry Brigade under command to the 52 Infantry Division and Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna in close collaboration with officials of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and Divisional Secretariat Office Vadamarachchi (N) (Point Pedro) successfully conducted IO WAVE 2025 Tsunami Disaster Prevention Exercise in the general area of Point Pedro in order to alert the community in the event of any repetition of Tsunami situation in the area on 05 November 2025.

It was carried out in the Vadamarachchi Hindu Girls College - Point Pedro as the Safety Centre with a total of 917 individuals, including 567 students and 73 teachers from J/Methodist Girls’ High School - Point Pedro and 277 civilians from community. All of them actively took part in the exercise. During the Exercise, every participant was instructed about the immediate evacuation procedure that should be followed in the event of a Tsunami disaster.

Mr.M.Piiratheepan - GA Jaffna, Mr N Thirulinganathan - DS Vadamarachchi (N)(Point Pedro), Mr N Sooriyarajah - Deputy Director Jaffna District (DMC), Col RPCA Samaranayake RSP USP - Col GS of the 52 Infantry Division and Col IKAC Kumara WWV RWP RSP - Col Coord of the 52 Infantry Division was participated for the event. The Exercise was carried out by the 521 Infantry Brigade under the guideline of Brig BDTD Jayarathne psc - Commander 521 Infantry Brigade, with the support of 4th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 11th Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment with coordination of Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, STF officers, Police officers, including several stakeholders from Sri Lanka Red Cross, St John Ambulance Service, Humedica for First Aid and MOH Point Pedro.
