To strengthen civil–military relations with the Tamil community, and in line with the concept of the Commander 521 Infantry Brigade, a donation program was conducted on 14th January 2026 at the Sundar Udayam Reading Hall, Karanavai, under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of the 11th Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
This initiative also aligned with the national “Clean Sri Lanka” program, promoting sanitation and environmental responsibility. The program considered with the Thai Pongal festival, celebrating harvest and gratitude, and aimed at improving livelihoods and sanitation within the community. Through the generous sponsorship of the Mureelitharan Family from Sydney, essential food items were distributed to 150 beneficiaries, while 22 families received targeted livelihood assistance. Additionally, construction materials were donated to complete a latrine for a low-income household, supporting better hygiene and public health.
The event was presided over by the Brigadier BDTD Jayarathna psc, Commander 521 Infantry Brigade and Mr. Yathushan Mureelitharan, son of Mureelitharan (donar) family with the participation of 03 officers with 15 soldiers and 150 civilians, and was highly appreciated by the local community.
