Commander of the Army Visits Jaffna Peninsula

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, made an official visit to the Jaffna Peninsula from 18 to 20 October 2025. During his visit, he has engaged in a series of significant activities to inspect the well-being of the soldiers and readiness of troops deployed in Security forces (Jaffna) AOR.

Upon his arrival at the Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna, the Commander of the Army was warmly welcomed by Major General K A N Rasika Kumara ndc psc, Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna). He was honoured with a Drive Pass and appeared for group photograph with troops. After receiving a comprehensive briefing from Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna), Commander of the Army inspected camp premises including Other Ranks’ accommodations and kitchen. Later he attended to an interactive All-Ranks tea party at the Private Mess, engaging in cordial and informative discussions with Officers and Other Ranks.

Subsequently, he visited newly constructed Character Development Center (CDC) at Vasavilan, Army Base Hospital - Palaly and American Missionary Tamil Mix School at Chullipuram. Later, the Commander of the Army visited 11 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 5 Battalion Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and 7 Battalion Sri Lanka Army Women Corps respectively. As part of his visit, Commander of the Army visited the historic Sri Nagavihara Temple, where he received blessings from Venerable Meegahajandure Siriwimala Thero and also visited the Bishop’s House in Jaffna, where he met with Rt.Rev.Dr.Justin Bernard Gnanapragasam.

On the second day, Commander of the Army visited 9 (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 11 Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 521 Infantry Brigade. During those visits he inspected camp premises including Other Ranks’ accommodations, kitchen and dining facilities of soldiers.
