521 Infantry Brigade Initiates Public Washroom Project Near Point Pedro Jetty

The 521 Infantry Brigade has initiated the construction of a new public washroom complex near the Point Pedro Jetty under the Clean Sri Lanka Programme, aiming to improve sanitation and public convenience in this growing tourist region.

Point Pedro has become one of the most visited locations in the Jaffna Peninsula, attracting both local and foreign travelers for its coastline, cultural heritage, and vibrant fishing life. Among these tourist destinations, Point Pedro Jetty is becoming a famous spot, drawing increasing numbers of visitors who enjoy its scenic views and lively atmosphere.

With the rise in tourism, Local and foreign tourists visiting the northernmost tip of Sri Lanka, Point Pedro, often face severe inconvenience due to the lack of toilet facilities in the area. To address this situation, the construction of a public toilet system near the Point Pedro Jetty was commenced on 10.11.2025, under the instructions of the Commander 521 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier BDTD Jayarathne psc and with the contribution of the 4th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment. The new washroom complex will enhance comfort for visitors, support local community, and contribute to a cleaner coastal environment. It will also benefit fishermen, traders, and residents who use the jetty daily.

Through this initiative, the Sri Lanka Army continues its commitment to national development and community well-being, helping strengthen Point Pedro’s position as a leading destination in the north.
