52 Infantry Division troops under the supervision of Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) conducted multiple disaster-response and public-health operations across the area of responsibility on 09 December 2025.
Troops of the 4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Conducted a comprehensive joint cleaning programme at Thamodara School, situated within the Karunavaiya Grama Niladhari Division. This operation was carried out in close coordination with parents, teachers, and members of the local community, ensuring a unified effort toward restoring normal educational activities. The cleaning programme involved: clearing debris and mud accumulated due to heavy rains, restoring sanitation facilities, cleaning classrooms, playgrounds, and surrounding areas and ensuring a safe and hygienic learning environment for students
The collaborative nature of the activity further strengthened civil–military relations and reinforced the Army’s commitment to assisting the public during emergencies.Troops of the 23 Battalion, The Gemunu Watch conducted a well-cleaning operation in Iththevil village, where two wells had become contaminated due to recent adverse weather conditions. The troops thoroughly cleaned and restored both wells, ensuring they were safe and usable for the community to use. This timely intervention provided clean water access to 110 residents belonging to 30 families, significantly easing their daily hardships and supporting essential public health needs. The effort reflects the Army’s continued commitment to assisting local communities during periods of environmental stress.The 10 (Volunteer) Battalion of the Vijayaba Infantry Regiment undertook a significant restoration operation at St. Phillip Church in Championpattu, which had been severely flooded due to the prevailing adverse weather. The flooding caused substantial damage to the church premises, posing both safety risks and disrupting religious activities. Upon assessment, the 10 (Volunteer) Battalion of the Vijayaba Infantry Regiment troops promptly mobilized and carried out a thorough clean-up and restoration effort, which included: Removing accumulated floodwater and debris, cleaning and sanitizing the interior and exterior of the church, restoring damaged pathways and surroundings and assisting the clergy and community members in reorganizing the premises. This swift and dedicated response by Army troops ensured that the church could resume its regular functions and once again serve the local community.
As community assistance operations advanced into their seventh consecutive day, troops of the 52 Infantry Division continued to display strong commitment to community welfare across the Jaffna Peninsula. Through sustained cleaning operations, support to public institutions and direct assistance to affected families, the Division remained dedicated to safeguarding the wellbeing of the civilian population and reinforcing community resilience as recovery efforts continued across the region.
