51 Infantry Division Sustains Community Recovery Operations In Jaffna For Twelfth Consecutive Day

Troops of the 51 Infantry Division under Security Force Headquarters Jaffna continued Division led community assistance and civil military cooperation operations across the Jaffna Peninsula on 16 December 2025, marking the twelfth consecutive day of sustained humanitarian engagement in support of communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah and prevailing adverse weather conditions. All under command brigades remained actively engaged in restoring essential services, rehabilitating public infrastructure, and supporting the daily living requirements of affected civilian populations within the Division area of responsibility.

Under the 511 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 15 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard conducted a comprehensive cleaning programme at the flood affected Karunalayam Childrens Home in Kopay North, deploying 01 x 10 personnel to restore safe and hygienic living conditions for resident children and staff. Concurrently, troops of the 9 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry facilitated uninterrupted access to clean drinking water for affected households in Antonypuram, Palali North, employing a battalion water bowser and 01 x 05 personnel to distribute essential water supplies to the civilian population.

Under the 512 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 17 Gemunu Watch carried out a targeted cleaning and restoration programme at St Joseph Vidyalayam in Passaiyoor, deploying 01 x 15 personnel to clear debris and rehabilitate school premises, thereby supporting the early resumption of educational activities in the affected area.

Under the 513 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry extended essential assistance by conducting a road cleaning operation in the Pandathirippu area, deploying a dedicated team to improve accessibility and public safety amid prevailing adverse weather conditions. Simultaneously, troops of the 10 Sri Lanka Artillery supported coastal community recovery efforts by assisting local residents in the cleaning and restoration of Wasanthakulam beach, deploying 01 x 10 personnel to enhance environmental conditions and public wellbeing.

As community assistance operations progressed into their twelfth consecutive day, troops of the 51 Infantry Division once again demonstrated steadfast commitment, professionalism, and operational resilience in serving the people of the Jaffna Peninsula. The Division remains resolutely focused on restoring essential services, safeguarding public wellbeing, and contributing decisively to sustained community recovery efforts in the aftermath of recent adverse weather conditions.
