51 Infantry Division Strengthens Community Recovery Operations in Jaffna

Troops of the 51 Infantry Division under Security Force Headquarters Jaffna continued Division led community assistance and civil military cooperation operations across the Jaffna Peninsula on 14 December 2025, marking the eleventh consecutive day of sustained humanitarian engagement in support of communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah and prevailing adverse weather conditions. All under command brigades remained fully committed to restoring essential services rehabilitating public institutions and supporting the daily living requirements of affected civilian populations within the Division area of responsibility.

Under the 511 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 9 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment continued humanitarian assistance by distributing clean drinking water to affected civilians in the Palali North area using a battalion water bowser, ensuring uninterrupted access to safe drinking water for flood affected households. Concurrently, troops of the 15 Sri Lanka National Guard Battaliom conducted a cleaning and restoration programme at the flood affected Urelu Sri Ganesha College, deploying dedicated manpower to clear debris and rehabilitate the school premises in support of the early resumption of educational activities.

Under the 512 Infantry Brigade, troops were actively engaged in essential logistics and infrastructure support tasks. In response to a request from the Disaster Management Centre Jaffna, troops facilitated the transport of essential relief items from the Sri Lanka Air Force Base Palaly to the Divisional Secretariat Jaffna for onward distribution to cyclone affected communities in the Northern Province. In addition, troops of the 17 Gemunu Watch Regiment carried out a comprehensive cleaning programme at the Kalviyankadu Hindu Tamil School, restoring the premises for safe use by students and staff.

Under the 513 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment extended essential assistance by conducting a cleaning and restoration programme at the Jamuma Pre School premises in the Chullipuram area, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for children and teaching staff. Simultaneously, troops of the 10 Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment supported coastal community recovery efforts by conducting a beach cleaning programme in the Sendakulam beach area of Keeramalei, contributing to environmental restoration and public wellbeing.

As community assistance operations progressed into their eleventh consecutive day, troops of the 51 Infantry Division once again demonstrated steadfast commitment professionalism and resilience in serving the people of the Jaffna Peninsula. The Division remains resolutely focused on restoring essential services safeguarding public wellbeing and contributing decisively to the ongoing community recovery effort in the aftermath of recent adverse weather conditions.
