The 51 Infantry Division conducted a welfare-oriented distribution programme at its Headquarters on 13 December under the auspices and guidance of the Commander Security Forces Jaffna, with the aim of providing relief to Army personnel and civilian employees adversely affected by the recent disaster.
The programme was made possible through constructive engagement with Cool Planet under the leadership of the General Officer Commanding 51 Infantry Division. The support included a high value donation of branded shirts, T shirts, ladies’ wear and children’s clothing, facilitated through the instrumental efforts of Mr Imran Iqbal, Head of Operations of Cool Planet. This contribution enabled the Division to implement its welfare initiative in a timely, effective and meaningful manner.
As part of the initiative, the clothing was distributed among nearly one hundred Army personnel and civilian workers serving under the Division Headquarters, under command Brigades and Battalions. The beneficiaries were selected based on the hardships and losses they had endured during the recent Ditwah Cyclone, ensuring that assistance reached those most in need.
Addressing the recipients, the General Officer Commanding emphasised the responsibility of the Army to safeguard the welfare of its personnel and civilian workforce, particularly during periods of adversity. He noted that such initiatives strengthen resilience, reinforce morale and reflect the Army’s enduring commitment to looking after its own.
The 51 Infantry Division continues to prioritise the welfare of its troops and employees alongside its operational responsibilities. Initiatives of this nature demonstrate the Division’s proactive leadership and its capacity to mobilise valuable resources through constructive engagement with responsible corporate partners.
The Division also acknowledged the generous assistance rendered by Cool Planet which made the successful conduct of the welfare programme possible, and extended its appreciation to Mr Imran Iqbal, Head of Operations, for his valuable support in facilitating the donation. This initiative not only provided timely relief to personnel and civilian workers affected by the recent disaster but also reinforced positive civil–military cooperation in the service of national wellbeing.
