23 Gemunu Watch Troops Extend Support to Needy Families with Mattress and Coconut Plant Distribution

In a heartfelt initiative aimed at uplifting local communities, the troops of the 23 Gemunu Watch distributed 40 mattresses and 40 coconut plants to needy families at KN/Vembadikeny CCTM School on 2 March 2025. This benevolent effort was conducted under the vision of Major General Y.M.B.M. Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of the Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna. The event was executed with the direction of Major General V.D.S. Perera, General Officer Commanding of the 52 Infantry Division, and the guidance of Colonel J.A.C. Karunathilaka RSP USP, Commander of the 522 Infantry Brigade.

The occasion was graced by Major General V.D.S. Perera as the Chief Guest, who highlighted the significance of community support and sustainable development. The distribution of mattresses and coconut plants was aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of 40 underprivileged families, providing them with both immediate comfort and long-term economic benefits.

Several esteemed dignitaries attended the event, including Father Anton Jorge, Mr. Vadiwel Jeewarathnam, Principal of Vembadikeny CCTM School, and the Grama Niladaris representing Inthavil, Vembadikeny, Kilaali, and Muhamale. Their presence underscored the collaborative spirit between the military and local authorities, reinforcing a shared commitment to community welfare.

The 23 Gemunu Watch, under the leadership of its Commanding Officer Major E.A. Edirisinghe RWP RSP psc, played a crucial role in organizing and executing the event. Their dedication to fostering camaraderie and engagement with the local community was evident throughout the initiative. This effort not only provided essential resources to the beneficiaries but also strengthened the bond between the military and the civilians, emphasizing the importance of collective support in community development.

The distribution initiative marks yet another milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Sri Lanka Army to contribute positively to society, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to humanitarian assistance and nation-building.
