7th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment

The troops of the Battalion were also involved in a number of operations carried out in Thoppigala, Vakarai, Monkey Bridge, Trincomalee and Vavuniya as well as in 'Operation Balawegaya I'. Meanwhile, E Company was raised and posted to the Area HQ (Ampara) for operational duties. This company was later released from the Battalion to be a part of the 8th Battalion of the SLSR at the time of it being formed.

Leaving Batticaloa the Battalion moved to Welioya. Having been involved in operations in Andamkulam and Pulmudai the Battalion moved on to Mullaitivu on 18th May 1992 to be involved in 'Operation Sathbalaya' launched on 28th May 1992. On successful completion of the said operation the Battalion reported to Vettilakerny on 27th June 1992 to be part of 'Operation Balawegaya II' which commenced on 28th June 1992 on completion of which the Battalion was assigned to secure the FDL.

On 21st December 1992, Lieutenant Colonel KMDUM Kendaragama RSP psc handed over duties of the Commanding Officer to Lieutenant Colonel LAD Amarathunga RSP.

The Battalion successfully defended the FDL for three years repulsing many a number of infiltration attempts that the LTTE set out to carry out as well as a number of attacks on the FDL. The Battalion was also part of 'Operation Yaldevi' and several other limited operations.

On 19th November 1995, Major RAAA Perera took over command of the Battalion.

On 8th July 1996 the Battalion was moved to Colombo, stationed at the Henry Pedris Stadium and tasked with ensuring security the city. However, less than one month into the new task the Battalion was moved to Mullaitivu as reinforcement in view of the losses incurred as a result of the LTTE's concentrated attack on Mullaitivu.

On 24th July 1996, Battalion was again called to reinforce the FDL at Elephant Pass.

On 26th July 1996 troops took part in 'Operation Sathjaya' launched from Elephant Pass with the aim to freeing Kilinochchi from LTTE control. The Battalion successfully ended the first day of the operation by fighting where way right up to Parantan.

In 1998, the Battalion was stationed at Kanakkilappu, Chavakachcheri placed under command to the 521 Brigade. Detachments were established at Kerathivu, Koilakkandi and Nawakkuli.

On 5th March 1999, Major GJL Waduge RSP took over command of the Battalion.

Commencing 1st September 1999 the camp at Thanankilappu, Chavakachcheri came under attack on several occasions and by 1st December 1999 the situation continued to turn worse from bad. With the fall of Elephant Pass into enemy hands on 22nd April 2000 the losses incurred by various Battalions made then unable to operate as individual Battalions thus, on 22nd June 2000 the 6th and the 7th Battalions were amalgamated and renamed as the 6/7 Battalion of the Sinha Regiment. At the time Lieutenant Colonel KAWP Kumarapperuma was commanding the Battalion.

The 7th Battalion was once again formed with the officers and other rankers from other Battalions and groups being made available to the 7th Battalion. Thus, 11 officers & 217 other rankers of the regular battalions of the SLSR who at the time were performing duties at the Division Headquarters in Vavuniya, 6 officers & 120 other rankers who returned to the Island after a stint with the UN Peace Keeping Force in Haiti and 19 officers & 410 other rankers gathered from other regular forces joined the Battalion.

On 26th January 2006 Lieutenant Colonel KHPP Fernando RSP took over command of the Battalion.

The Battalion set updeta chmentsin Rasendrakulam, Nelukkulam, Chekkadipilai, Gageshapuram, Mailakulam, Ambasewana, Suduwendrapilavu, Thammanakulam and Vavuniya Town. The Command and Control Company and the Support Company were stationed at the Pompeimadu Camp.
