The Commander of the Army has graciously approved the establishment of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police Officer Commanding Troops - Mullaitivu on the 28th of December, 2023, placing it under the command of the Directorate of Provost. The inauguration ceremony of the Officer Commanding Troops (Mullaitivu) was held on the 16th of January, 2024. Lieutenant Colonel MDSUK Weerasinghe USP psc had the honor of assuming duties as the first Staff Officer 1 of the Officer Commanding Troops (Mullaitivu)

Prior to the establishment of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police Officer Commanding Troops – Mullaitivu, the 6th Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police was set up to perform duties in the Mullaitivu Area of Responsibility. This regiment was newly established under the Security Forces Headquarters Mullaitivu on the 21st of April, 2011, with 3 Officers and 16 Non-Commissioned Officers.
The 6th Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police functioned as a regular unit of the Sri Lanka Army, established under the Regimental Center with the expansion of the Army. This unit was established under the command of the Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army.
For a period of 13 years, the 6th Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police provided exemplary provost support to the Security Forces Headquarters (Mullaitivu), 59 Division, 64 Division, and 68 Division under the leadership of 6 Commanding Officers. With the reorganization and restructuring process of the Sri Lanka Army, it was directed that the 6th Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police be suppress effective from the 31st of December, 2023. The esteemed Officers mentioned below were the initial Commanding Officers of the unit, diligently performing provost duties in the Mullaitivu area.
