The Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) shooters secured the championship in the Service Regiment category at the Inter Regiment Combat Shooting Competition - 2024. This esteemed competition, organized by the Army Small Arms Association (ASAA) in collaboration with the Marksmanship and Sniper Training School (MSTS) at Diyatalawa, took place from 16 August to 25 August 2024. A total of 35 teams representing 23 regiments of the Sri Lanka Army participated in the event, competing in both open and novice categories. The annual event saw the participation of over 350 shooters, aiming to enhance the standards of rifle shooting to be on par with international levels.
Under the leadership of Major W D C Siriwardana psc Lsc, the Commanding Officer of the 4th Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, the SLCMP firing team achieved an impressive score of 1973 out of 2500 points in the combat shooting competition held on 17 August 2024. This outstanding performance earned them the top position in the service regiment category, surpassing the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers teams, who were placed second and third, respectively. Additionally, the SLCMP team distinguished themselves by securing the 7th position overall in the open category, competing against all arms regiments.
The following Officers and Non - Commissioned Officers (NCOs) of the SLCMP firing team, who scored more than 200 out of 250 points, were awarded the prestigious marksmanship insignia at the prize-giving ceremony on 30 August 2024:

S/678978 Corporal Werakoon K M K D (228 out of 250 Points)
S/680689 Lance Corporal Dasanayake D M D R (228 out of 250 Points)
In addition, S/680534 Lance Corporal Bandara M M C S of the SLCMP novices firing team was also awarded the marksmanship insignia, having scored 215 out of 250 points in the competition held on 21 August 2024.
The commendable achievements of the SLCMP firing team were greatly facilitated by the continuous guidance, oversight and encouragement provided by the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, the Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army and the Centre Commandant of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police along with senior Officers. Their support was pivotal in enabling the team to attain this distinguished accomplishment.
