SRI LANKA CORPS OF MILITARY POLICE HOSTS POSON FESTIVAL AT THE BANK OF GIRITATLE TANK

The “Poson” is a religious festival that signifies the arrival of Buddhism to Sri Lanka in 3rd Century BC. The Poson Festival is celebrated throughout the island to commemorate the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka by Mahinda Thero to the focal point of monastic complex on the mountain of Mihintale.

The night of 21 June 2024 was aglow with vibrant Poson Festivities as the 2nd Regiment of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police together with the School of Military Police under the guidance of Seva Vanitha Branch of SLCMP, hosted a spectacular Poson Programme blending cultural reverence and communal spirit.

The event commenced with the opening of the Gram Dansala by the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Major General S A N D Edirisinghe RWP RSP Hdmc Psc, a tradition steeped in generosity where visitors were treated to hearty meals amidst an atmosphere of camaraderie and goodwill. The aroma of traditional culinary delights filled the air, drawing attendees in to partake in the festivities of Polonnaruwa Area.

Following this auspicious start, the highlight of the evening unfolded with the enchanting Poson Bakthi Geetha program named “පොසොන් උදාවයි දහම් අමාවයි” . The air resonated with devotional melodies as talented performers from Jayanthipura SecondarySchool, Hingurakgoda Pre School Teachers’ Society and Provost Members alike took to the stage, captivating the audience with soul-stirring renditions of timeless spiritual songs with collaborative Visuals and Dancing Items.

The program, meticulously organized by the Commandant School of Military Police together with the Commanding Officer of 2nd Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police with the staff, showcased a harmonious blend of cultural heritage and military discipline. Attendees were treated to a visual and auditory feast, leaving a lasting impression of unity and celebration of arrival of the Arahath Mahinda Thero and preaching of Buddhism to Ceylon.

"This event is a testament to the rich cultural tapestry and the spirit of unity that defines our community," remarked a delighted attendee. The Provost Marshal of Sri Lanka Army, Brigadier R D Sallay ndc, the Centre Commandant, Council members, the President of the Seva Vanitha Branch of SLCMP Mrs. Manisha Kotalawala and other members of Seva Vanitha Branch - Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police were present at the occasion.
