In coincide with the 74th Army Day Celebration 0n 10 October 2023, The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General H l V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu awarded the Army Commander's Commendation Badge to Corporal Nanayakkara N E D P - 2 SLCMP for his exemplary action.
The handbag, containing Rs 700,000 worth of foreign currency, Canon camera, a passport, a power bank and ATM cards was found by Cpl Nanayakkara while on duty at the Avukana Buddha statue of 2 SLCMP, Giritale. After seeing the hand bag, belonging to the tourist, Ms. Kayo Chambi Jacklin Slinda, he took immediate steps to handover that to the Headquarters ,2nd Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police for onward action and later the hand bag with the wallet was returned to the owner by the Commanding Officer of 2 SLCMP in the presence of the Provost Corporal who found it.
The virtues of honesty and integrity are the cornerstones of the provost. His unwavering duty serves as an inspiring example to member of provost and Sri Lanka Army. Moreover, his action has gone beyond the call of duty, exemplifying the very best qualities of a provost soldier. Hence, his excellent endeavor was greatly commended and appreciated by the owner. Further, this act of honesty reflects his well renowned inheritance quality and high degree of integrity which inborn with his heritage.
The Provost Marshal of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Major General A C A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc took time to bestow with his heartfelt gratitude for act of trust worthiness and being one of the provost member who awarded the prestigious Army Commander’s Commendation Badge. He is a one and only Provost Member who recorded the history of SLCMP who obtained such magnitude achievement by shining the name of regiment and keeping the provost flag flying high.
