In an inspiring and thought-provoking session, Brigadier Hiran N. Halangoda RWP RSP USP USACGSC (Retd), a distinguished senior officer of the Gemunu Watch, delivered a lecture on “An Officer and a Gentleman/Lady as a Military Leader.”
Drawing from his vast experience and deep understanding of military leadership, Brigadier Hiran N. Halangoda highlighted the critical importance of selfless service, integrity, honour, and unwavering commitment in the life of a professional officer. His address underscored how these timeless virtues form the bedrock of effective leadership in the armed forces. He further emphasized that a true military leader must cultivate emotional intelligence, resilience, and ethical decision-making to lead by example, especially in times of adversity. The session also included an engaging discussion segment, during which Military Police officers had the opportunity to present their concerns and seek valuable guidance on various challenges that they face in the present context.
The event was graced by the presence of senior officers, including the Military Secretary and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Major General U L J S Perera RSP USP ndu psc; Commander, Logistics Command – SFHQ (Central), Major General R D Sallay ndc; the Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army, Brigadier A M R Abeysinghe ndc; Centre Commandant - SLCMP, Brigadier MMMP Mahesh Kumara; Brigadier Admin & Quartering 1 Corps, Brigadier RMKAS Rajanayaka; Brigadier Admin & Quartering SFHQ (W), Brigadier JS Munasinghe; Project Officer, SFHQ (Central), Brigadier DDD Serasinghe USP; together with Council Members, senior officers, and other SLCMP officers both in person and virtually.
The event served as a valuable platform for officers of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police to reflect on their enduring responsibilities and the noble values that define military leadership.
