An Army Corporal on duty around the Avukana Buddha statue replica near Giritale 2 Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) camp along Polonnaruwa-Habarana main road on Sunday (13) showcased his professional integrity and honesty and returned the lost handbag of a foreign tourist with Rs 7 lakhs worth foreign currency, Canon camera, a passport, a power bank, ATM cards inside.
The Army Corporal N.E.D.P Nanayakkara of the 2 SLCMP on seeing the handbag, belonging to the Peruvian tourist, Ms Kayo Chambi Jacklin Slinda had been left behind in the adjacent area, took immediate steps to deliver the handbag to the 2 SLCMP Headquarters for onward action.
The 2 SLCMP Commanding Officer, Major N. P. E. N Nerangama in turn traced the whereabouts of the tourist from Peru and informed her to arrive at the 2 SLCMP camp at Giritale to claim her belongings.
The lady tourist was more than happy to arrive there within minutes and repeatedly thanked the Corporal N.E.D.P Nanayakkara for the recovery of her handbag intact with all the valuables inside. Excited Ms Slinda on arrival at the Commanding Officer's office heaped praise on the exemplary conduct of the Army Corporal and thanked the Army forits great gesture saying that her holidaying in Sri Lanka would have been a chaos if she had failed to trace her passport, money and valuables.
The handbag with the wallet was returned by the 2 SLCMP Commanding Officer to her in the presence of the Army Corporal who found it.
Further, the colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police Major General AL Ilangakoon appreciated and praised this great action which brought great honor and glory to the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police as well as the mother land on behalf of all the Officers and ORs of this regiment.
