The Sri Lanka corps of Military Police Unit which functioned as a regular unit of the Sri Lanka Army was set up as 03 x Military Police regular units functioning under the regimental centre with expansion of the Sri Lanka Army. The 2nd Sri Lanka Military Police was established under the command of a Deputy Provost marshal in 21Div at ANURADAPURA. The under mentioned offrs and ORs were the initial staff of the unit who performed provost duties covering the areas of ANURADHAPURA, VAVUNIYA, MANNAR and WELIOYA, MULATIVU, ELEPHANT PASS, KAITS and PUNARIN.

2nd Regiment Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police was raised on 01.04.1991 under the patronage of the senior officer Major AB Thoradeniya at 2nd Div HQ, Ranasewapura and Anuradhapura. In 22nd of May 2001, the Unit was transfer to Narahenpita and after that in 19th March 2003 onwards the 2 SLCMP was established in Girithale. The main role of the unit is to maintain high level of discipline within the Military troops in SFHQ (E) AOR in aspire of accomplish the main task allocated to it. It has been established Military Police Coys/Secs in Ampara, Baticaloa, Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee districts with the intention of fulfill the role and task which are owed to the unit .

The offrs and ors of this unit actively participated and made their optimum contribution to Operations as follows

Accordingly the unit rotation 2 SLCMP performed their duties at COLOMBO till 11th May 2003. Their main duties are as follows

Convocations
Poppy day remembrance
Piloting for VIP/VVIP
Motor-cross duties
KANDY DALADA perahera special duties
