United Nations Staff Officers Course No 02 UNSOC 2023 was commenced on 06 March 2023 at the Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL). This comprehensive training capsule undertaken with collaboration of the United Nations and Global Peace Operations Initiatives (GPOI) organization. The course consisted with 32 student officers of the Sri Lanka Armed forces, the Police, Special Task Force and 06 foreign student officers from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Mongolia and Nepal.
IPSOTSL has mainly focus on the prime responsibility which a United Nations Staff Officer has to perform and formulated the course curriculum according to the guide lines provided by the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (DPO). Upon completion of the UNSOC, participants will be competent in the knowledge, skills, and attributes of effective United Nations staff officers.
The Lecture Panel was consisted with 02 Subject Matter Experts from the GPOI Organization, Mr. Bengt Folkeson from Sweden, Mr. Jens Winther Andersen from Denmark, Regional Officer Instructor Lt Col Sujan Gurung from Nepal, and other 03 In-house instructors, Lt Col MAAP Perera RWP RSP psc SLLI, Lt Col MLNU Liyanage RSP SLAC, Maj KHD Mendis SLAGSC to facilitate and educate student officers on the Staff Officer Duties with real ground experience.

The opening address was delivered by the day’s Chief Guest, Brigadier C A Rajapaksha RSP, the Commandant - IPSOTSL. During the opening remarks the commandant highlighted the importance of a Staff Officer as United Nations Peacekeeping personals to ensure the world peace.
