Major General PI Pathiratne is presently serving as the Commandant Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) Kukuleganga and his responsibilities include, planning, coordinating and conducting of all local and foreign peacekeeping training activities in IPSOTSL.

Major General PI Pathiratne was born on 12 April 1965. After completing higher studies, he joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 17 January 1986. On successful completion of the basic officer cadet course at Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in to the Gemunu Watch Regiment. During his career spanning over 31 years, he has held many Command and Staff Appointments and served in many areas holding all command level appointments up to the General Officer Commanding of a Division.

He has attended number of military training/ visit both home and abroad. He has attended Young Officers Course, Junior Command Course and Senior Command Course in India, United Nation Stabilization Mission Military Induction Course in Port Au Prince Haiti, Asia Pacific Peacekeeping Commandant & Chief Instructor Conference in Dhaka Bangladesh, Senior Leaders Seminar On “The Challenges Of Multinational United Nation Peace Support Operation after a Natural Disaster” in Honolulu Hawaii - USA, Asia Pacific Peacekeeping Centre Commandant Conference in Kualalumpur Malaysia, United Nations National Planners Course conducted by Serbian Peace keeping training centre Serbia, United Nation Ministerial 2017 Preparatory Meeting in Bangladesh, United Nation Ministerial 2017 Meeting in Canada, Diploma In Senior Level Defence Management Conducted By University of Indore in India. He also holds Masters Degree in Management at Kotelawala Defence University Sri Lanka.

He has held almost all the Regimental appointments which an infantry officer is expected to hold such as Platoon Commander, Adjutant, Infantry Company Commander, Battalion Second in Command and the Commanding Officer. during his young officer period he has followed method of instruction course at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Basic Security and Intelligent officer course at Operation Headquarters Ministry of Defence Colombo, Company Commander refresher course in two different places namely 21 Brigade Anuradhapura and Army Headquarters Colombo, Basic Marksmanship Course and Unit Coach Course at Marksmanship and Sniper Training School and Basic Swimming Course at Army Physical Training Institute Panagoda.

Besides the Regimental appointments, he has held important appointments which include, officiating Brigade Commander 523 Brigade, Commander 222 Brigade, Commander 113 Brigade, Commander 144 Brigade, Commander 142 Brigade and General Officer Commanding 64 Division.

Army Staff appointments he held include, Assistant Adjutant Kotelawala Defence Academy, Brigade Major 212 Brigade, Officiating General Staff Officer I (Coord) 23 Division, General Staff Officer I (Ops) 23 Division and Regimental Centre Commandant the Regiment of Gemunu Watch.

He was also employed as Chief instructor and Commanding Officer, in Marksmanship and Sniper Training School Diyatalawa, He has held appointments of Commandant Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka and Commandant Infantry Training Center Minneriya too.

He also had the opportunity in participating for Sri Lanka in UN Peacekeeping Mission to Haiti as a Second in Command of the Sri Lankan contingent where he was able to grasp enormous experience in working with multinational environment.

He is a recipient of 12 military decorations and medals which have been awarded to him for his dedicated and loyal service to the nation.

He is married to Achala Gunasekara and having two daughters namely Dilumi and Yenuli.
