  UNITED NATIONS MILITARY OBSERVER COURSE (UNMOC/GPOI- 2022) NO 01
 

United Nations Military Observer Course No 01 was commenced on 28 November 2022 at the Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) with the Instructor sponsorship from Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) and the US Embassy Sri Lanka for two foreign officer instructors from the Bangladesh and Nepal. The course was consisted with 37 student Officers from Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and STF.

The UN Military Observers (UNMOs) are the eyes and the ears of the Mission. IPSOTSL has mainly focus on the prime responsibility which a Military Observer has to perform and prepared the course curriculum according to the guide lines provided by the UNDPKO.

The Lecture Panel was consisted with 02 foreign Officer Instructors, Lt Col M D Sharif Raihan from Bangladesh Army and Major Laxman Khadka from the Nepal Army and other 02 In-house instructors, Lt Col P W Karunarathna RSP USP GW, Lt Col K A A K Krunarathna RWP RSP USP psc SLLI to facilitate and educate student officers on the Military Observer Duties.

The Opening address was delivered by Brigadier C A Rajapaksha RSP, the Commandant - IPSOTSL. During the opening remarks the commandant highlighted the importance of being a military observer and the prime responsibilities such as monitoring, verifying, investigating incidents, reporting violations and many more tasks related to the designation which they have to fulfill as Military Observers.
