  INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS BASIC COURSE NO - 31
 

The International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Basic Course was commenced on 15 August 2022 at IPSOTSL under the direction and guidance of Directorate of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.

The course consisted with twenty officers including fifteen officers from the Sri Lanka Army, three officers from the Sri Lanka Navy, two officers from the Sri Lanka Air Force, and 47 Other Ranks from the tri services. The main aim of the course was to enhance the knowledge of junior level officers and NCOs regarding the Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.

The world has become a global village and values such as the upholding of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law are shared globally. Human Rights education promotes values, beliefs and attitudes that encourage all individuals to uphold their own rights and those of others. As military personals it is much more important to be familiar with the International humanitarian Law. It also develops an understanding of everyone’s common responsibility to make Human Rights and International humanitarian Law a reality in each community.
